The Centralized Emergency Power Generator Facility is located at the University of Iowa’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
It is a large-scale generation facility.
This facility houses three 2-megawatt generators that supply emergency backup power to the hospital.
Each generator weighs 40,000 pounds. The generators distribute power throughout the hospital.
They can do this from over 1 mile away.
After a power outage occurs the power will be restored within 10 seconds.
