Employee Spotlight Paul – Estimator

Meet Paul, one of Price Electric’s People You Can Rely On.

Paul is an electrical estimator responsible for compiling data and organizing files to create comprehensive project estimates. Depending on the project’s size, his time to complete these varies from weeks to months. For example, the estimate for the Amazon project in Florida was finalized in under two weeks, thanks to efficient collaboration between Paul and his coworker, Tanner. Paul works closely with project managers and the sales team to identify projects that need estimates and communicates with potential general contractors to ensure the best job scope.

Outside of work, Paul enjoys spending time with his family. He has been married to his wife, Jamie, for nearly 23 years. They have a sixteen-year-old son, Logan, who plays soccer at FC United and Xavier High School, and a thirteen-year-old daughter, Layton, who plays softball and tennis at Lasalle Middle School. They also have a French Bulldog named Remy, who enjoys sleeping and cuddling. Additionally, Paul enjoys playing basketball and pickleball.

Could you tell us about a project at Price Electric that stands out to you? What made it memorable?

My favorite project was the Court Street parking ramp in Iowa City. This was my first large-scale project, and I had the incredible opportunity to manage it from start to finish. The experience was rewarding, as I learned a great deal and gained valuable insights that have shaped my career. The challenges I faced helped me grow professionally, and the successful completion of the project was a proud moment for me.

Did your family influence your career choice?

Absolutely! While I was working in Oklahoma and considering a job change, my sister, who was employed at an electrical company, suggested that her boss could hire me as an electrician. This opportunity marked the beginning of my career in the electrical field. Over the past six years, I have transitioned into the role of an electrical estimator. My hands-on experience as an electrician in the field has been incredibly beneficial in my current position. I believe that having prior field experience is a common and valuable trait among all estimators at Price Electric.

Tell us three things that most people do not know about you.

  1. I am from Oklahoma and proud to be an Okie, even though I have lost my Southern accent.
  2. I grew up fishing in small farm ponds, and now I enjoy fishing with my daughter.
  3. I grew up playing basketball because my dad was a coach, and I played in high school.

What is the best place you have ever traveled to and why?

The best place I’ve traveled to is Scotland in November of 2024. Although it was cold, as it was late in the fall, and there was a bit of rain at times, the scenery was amazing. We got to visit several soccer stadiums, which my son really enjoyed. Although we did not manage to see a soccer match, we’re considering a trip back to Scotland or London to explore different areas, maybe even Ireland. It was a family vacation, and it was something we had never experienced before. We spent six days there, and one of the highlights was visiting the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, the railway bridge featured in the Harry Potter movies, where the Hogwarts Express crosses, located in the Scottish Highlands.
