The University of Iowa State Hygienics Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory (BSL-3) project involved constructing an 8,000-square-foot addition. The three-story addition includes a 5,000-square-foot laboratory that consists of six distinct laboratory areas within a BSL-3 boundary.

The project involved demolishing the old wing, excavating and foundation work, erection of the steel structure, and installation of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Price Electric provided 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) and coordination, electrical installations, fire alarm data and communications systems, door and access controls, and security.

The project used threaded rigid conduits, cast boxes, and seal-offs to maintain an air-tight system for the electrical wiring within the BSL-3 area.
