A derecho storm caused mass destruction, including demolishment of homes and businesses along with power outages and downed power lines and traffic signals. The shear magnitude of what was accomplished in a short period of time is what sets this project apart from other signal projects completed this year. Price Electric employees went to work on the city’s damaged infrastructure 2 days into the storm recovery process, despite their own damaged homes. The City of Cedar Rapids partnered with Price Electric due to a long-standing relationship, and mutual respect and assurances that the work would be completed safely, professionally, and on-time. Price and the City of Cedar Rapids Traffic Engineering department worked with suppliers, both locally and nationwide, to get parts and equipment, ultimately getting damaged infrastructure functioning to facilitate repairs throughout the city. The traffic jams throughout the city were hampering repair efforts, therefore, completing this work was crucial to the greater recovery effort for the City of Cedar Rapids.
