Jason Barnd Commercial Foreman Employee Spotlight

Meet Jason Barnd, one of Price Electric’s People You Can Rely On. He started as an apprentice, earned his journeyman’s license, and was promoted to the foreman role in the Commercial division.

Three words that Jason used to describe working at Price Electric are fun, rewarding, and enjoyable.

When Jason isn’t at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, attending his kids’ sporting events, and doing anything outdoors, including hunting, boating, and fishing.

What has been your favorite project at Price Electric, and why?

My favorite project so far at Price Electric was the Linn Mar Boulder Peak Intermediate school project. I enjoyed collaborating with large crews and diverse trades. This project was complex, with very tight deadlines and budgets. Despite the COVID pandemic and the Derecho Storm delays, it was finished on time for the kids’ school year.

 

Where is your hometown?

My hometown is Mt. Vernon, Iowa.

What is your hidden talent?

I can juggle. In High School, they had a unit on juggling. It’s great for hand-eye coordination.

What do you like most about Price Electric?

At Price Electric, the people I work with are great. I enjoy the challenges of always learning something new, adapting, and finding new ways to do tasks. Each day is different as there are a variety of day-to-day tasks. I like watching new apprentices learn and grow into great leaders and forepersons.

What was the most interesting job you did before working at Price Electric?

When I was fourteen, I de-tasseled corn.

What advice would you give to someone considering a profession at Price Electric?

Price Electric is a good company that is very safety-oriented. There is much potential for your career growth. The company has several niches or divisions in which to work within. These include utility, industrial, commercial, low voltage, residential, and service.

What was the best vacation you have had?

My best vacation was visiting Fort Myers Beach, Florida, with my family for Thanksgiving. We had a lot of fun playing with the kids on the beach and swimming. We fished and traveled on an airboat tour to see the alligators. We enjoyed Thanksgiving with my parents, aunt, and uncle.

In what ways have you had opportunities to grow your career and achieve success at Price Electric?

I earned my journeyman’s license and completed medium voltage termination training. Price Electric provided the ABC emerging leaders classes I attended in Des Moines.

What is on your bucket list?

I want to do an elk hunt in Alaska.

Have you won any awards while being employed at Price Electric?

Price Electric has won multiple ABC Excellence in Construction awards on projects that I got to work on as a foreman. My co-workers nominated me, and won the Kelly Huffracker Employee of the Year award in 2019. I received a Kirkwood All-Star honorable mention in the Corridor Business Journal within the community.

What Price Electric core value do you identify with most?

The Price Electric core value I identify with most is Pursue Lasting Relationships. I enjoy meeting new people and building friendships within and outside of work.
