Construction Operations Manager Kurt Kramer Employee Spotlight

Meet Kurt Kramer, one of Price Electric’s People You Can Rely On.

Kurt is the Construction Operations Manager at Price Electric. Kurt manages all the project managers and oversees the major construction projects.

“My days change constantly, so every day is different.”

This includes weekly planning/scheduling meetings, budgeting, managing hours, putting out fires, and any technical questions from the field. Kurt is happiest in his spare time with his family.

“My family is fun and goofy; we laugh and give each other crap.” He looks forward to Friday nights when he gets off work. “My wife and I will spend time together and have a couple of drinks; the kids are normally home. We’re pretty simple and like to be at home.”

What has been your favorite project at Price Electric, and why?

Although incredibly stressful, it was the University of Iowa Theater Building.

Price Electric worked on this flood mitigation project after the 2008 flood.

This project included moving a 4000-amp service from the basement up to the new addition on the 4th floor. It was intense because we also moved a dimming rack for the theatrical lighting which consisted of over 15,000 wires up to the new addition as well.

There are so many different lighting programs for all the stage scenes.

Do you have a work nickname?

A lot of people call me Kramer.

Have you been promoted at Price Electric?

I came to Price Electric as a residential electrician.

I always wanted to learn more about the commercial division.

I made requests and was able to be a helper on a commercial project. I began running commercial projects.

I moved to work in the Industrial Division.

I kept moving up to a superintendent position overseeing lots of projects.

I tell people that you won’t get any other company with these types of opportunities. If I didn’t come to Price Electric, I’d most likely still be wiring houses.

[Kurt was awarded the 2016 Employee of the Year Award.]

Do you have a motto or mantra that you live by?

Don’t allow anyone to call you lazy. Work hard in life, and good things will come.

What is your favorite movie?

My favorite movie of all time is Top Gun.

Tell us three things that most people don’t know about you.

  1. I love Christmas and Christmas music.
  2. I played baseball throughout high school. In addition, I coached my children in baseball and softball.
  3. People tell me that I’m pretty good at making impressions of other people.

Which Price Electric Core Value do you relate to the most?

Creating Opportunities for Success is the Price Electric Core Value that Kurt relates to.

“The core value, “Work Hard, Play Hard,” is the easy choice, but Create Opportunities for Success is what got me where I am in my career. At Price Electric, if you work hard and put in the extra hours, there is always another opportunity to grow and move up the ladder. I am the perfect example of that.”

What is your favorite meal?

My favorite meal would include any steak and potatoes.

What is the best thing about working at Price Electric?

The people are the best thing about my job. So many of us work together daily, but some will also spend time outside of work.

What is the best vacation that you have had?

My best vacation was a family vacation with my wife and kids. We traveled to Fort Myers Beach, Florida. My kids had never seen the ocean or flown on an airplane. Being with my wife and kids was the best because we’re always busy attending sporting events. It was nice to hang out as a family. We had a blast. We didn’t have plans, so he went to the beach, ate, and drank. It was awesome.

What would you say to someone considering a career with Price Electric?

If you want a long-term career, Price Electric is the place.

You’ll get opportunities to do multiple things. We do all different types of work.

You could go from running a suction excavator (Suc Vac) to being a project manager for an electrical job someday.

If you work hard, the opportunities here are endless.
